任職於「後屋」——英國二次大戰時期秘密戰爭武器研究室的山米，對工作總提不起勁，因為他厭倦了政府裡軍職與文職人員之間的權力鬥爭。另一方面，他自身的問題讓他無法專心於工作，他的義肢造成的身體疼痛，靠止痛藥已經解決不了，也令他對酒精產生無法自拔的依賴。山米的身心困境，能藉著愛情的到來得到解脫嗎？

 

Sammy Rice is a scientist working with a specialist "back room" team in London during World War II. Rice is embittered because he feels military scientific research is being incompetently managed. He is also enduring pain from his artificial foot. The painkillers are ineffective, and his use of alcohol as an analgesic has led to his alcoholism...
